Counterfeit designer products discovered at California seaport.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) coordinating with import specialists of the Consumer Products and Mass Merchandising and special agents from Homeland Security Investigations seized more than 13,000 counterfeit designer products that arrived from China at the Los Angeles/Long Beach Seaport last month. The fake clothing and accessories bore numerous trademarks, the estimated combined value had the merchandise been genuine would be over $30 million.
“Bad actors exploit e-commerce operations by selling counterfeit and unsafe goods through online platforms, particularly during the holiday season when shoppers are looking for deals,” said Los Angeles/Long Beach Port Director Donald Kusser. “If the price of the product seems too good to be true, it probably is. Counterfeit goods are often of poor quality and can even be unsafe for you and your family.”
